Find Your Lost Super!
Have you moved, changed name or held various jobs and lost track of your super? There are billions in lost super held by the ATO and Eligible Rollover Funds (ERFs) waiting to be claimed.
Super will be classified as unclaimed when a superfund account has been inactive for a period of 12 months and the superfund has either never had an address for the member or at least two written items of correspondence have been returned unclaimed. Unclaimed super can either be transferred into an ERF or is transferred to the ATO.
If a superfund has lost contact with you they may roll your super into an ERF, this is a super fund that looks after unclaimed super (and invests it for you) until you claim it back. All Super funds are required to nominate an ERF to which they can transfer lost, small and inactive accounts.
Super funds are required to pay lost super to the ATO when:
- You have a account balance of $2,000 or less; or
- The super account has been inactive for at least 12 months and it is unlikely that it will be possible to pay the member or rightful beneficiary.
The ATO has implemented a new system last year to help you track your lost super. Super seeker makes it easy to find your lost super and allows you to transfer it to the account that you want.
